November Reading Unit: Non-Fiction
This month during Readers Workshop we will be reading Non-Fiction texts. At the end of this unit, students will be able to:
-Understand the text features of non-fiction
-Collaborate with partners
-Become experts on a specific topic
-Teach others about their topic
-Build independent reading stamina and fluency
November Writing Unit: Informational Writing
This month during Writers Workshop, students will be creating their own Informational Writing. At the end of this unit, students will be able to:
-Become experts on a topic
-Demonstrate an understanding of this topic to teach others
-Experiment with multiple resources to research
-Revise, edit and produce informational writing
-Learn from their resources
-Collaborate with a partner
-Use multiple text features in their own writing
-Write with volume, fluency, and stamina
READING:
We are really working on becoming active readers as we create a "positive buzz" in our reading environment. Wise readers visualize as they read and play a movie in their heads as they engage in their book and put themselves in the characters' shoes. We are also looking for specific examples from the text to support our answers.
